Sports events and outdoor activities in Madrid

February 02, 2026

Madrid pulses with culture, gastronomy and sport. Not only because of its top-level sporting events, such as Formula 1 on September 13 or Madrid Horse Week from November 26 to 29, but also thanks to its wide range of outdoor activities available all year round.

Cycling routes

Madrid is perfect for exploring on two wheels—one of the best ways to enjoy the city’s outdoor spaces. The capital features a Green Cycling Ring and several Greenways, created along former railway lines. Parks such as Casa de Campo also offer numerous trails and paths. For more adventurous cyclists, there are BiciTren routes: predefined itineraries across the Community of Madrid that combine cycling and train travel.

Rowing and water sports

With the arrival of warmer weather, Madrid invites you to enjoy outdoor activities, especially by the water. From a peaceful boat ride on the Great Pond in El Retiro or the lake in Casa de Campo, to more dynamic options such as kayaking in reservoirs near the city, like Pedrezuela, there’s something for every pace.

Running events

For those who enjoy discovering Madrid while running, the city hosts several open races during spring. On April 26, the Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid takes place, offering a marathon, half marathon or 10K, all accompanied by live rock bands along the route. Spots are still available! Later, on May 10, the 22nd Women’s Race (Carrera de la Mujer) will take place, covering a 6.9 km route through the city. Registration is available on the event’s official website.

Golf

If you’re looking for an elegant and relaxing outdoor plan, try golfing in Madrid. The city is home to 29 golf courses, allowing players of all levels to enjoy a day outdoors. Many clubs offer options for non-federated players, although it’s always advisable to check access rules in advance.

Ciudad de la Raqueta

For tennis and padel enthusiasts, Ciudad de la Raqueta, located in the Montecarmelo neighbourhood, is a must-visit—just a 20-minute drive from Gran View Apartments. With 40 courts dedicated to these sports, you can book and play even if you’re not a club member.

Hiking

If hiking is your passion, Madrid offers natural treasures beyond its urban parks. Explore the surrounding landscapes, from panoramic views at Monte Abantos to the centuries-old oak trees of the Bosque de la Herrería, or the Cascada del Purgatorio—the most beautiful waterfall in the region—all within two hours’ drive.

If you prefer to combine sport and history, you can also walk sections of the Camino de Santiago within the Community of Madrid, following historic pilgrimage routes that blend natural beauty with cultural heritage.

After an active day, staying in the centre of Madrid is always the best choice. At Gran View Apartments, you’ll find spacious, modern and fully equipped apartments. Book now at the best rate through our official website!
