The San Cayetano festival takes place during the first week of August in the streets of La Latina and El Rastro. Local residents keep alive a tradition started by their ancestors who lived on Calle del Oso: handing out homemade “limoná,” a drink made with white wine, lemon, sugar, and cinnamon. The neighborhood's streets and balconies are decorated with manila shawls, colorful garlands, lights, and paper lanterns in honor of the saint.

San Lorenzo Festival 

After San Cayetano comes the San Lorenzo festival, held from August 8 to 11 in the famous neighborhood of Lavapiés. The traditional costume contest is one of the most anticipated events. During these days, Lavapiés blends Madrid's most traditional spirit with the cultural diversity that defines the neighborhood. Its main gathering spots are Plaza Arturo Barea and the area around the Church of San Lorenzo.

La Paloma Festival 

Madrid's traditional summer festivals wrap up with the celebration of the Virgen de la Paloma, held from August 13 to 16 in the La Latina neighborhood. Its main day is August 15, the feast of the Virgen de la Paloma. The main areas are the Jardines de las Vistillas, Plaza de la Paja, and the surrounding streets.
