A Tour of the Best Pastry Shops in Madrid

La Mallorquina

If there’s one place that represents Madrid’s pastry tradition, it’s La Mallorquina, founded in 1894 and with several shops in the city centre. One of them is located in Puerta del Sol, just an 8-minute walk from our apartments.

Its classics include the napolitana de crema, the chocolate-filled croissant, a wide selection of cakes in different flavours and an assortment of chocolates. It’s open every day and has a cosy tearoom on the upper floor.

Antigua Pastelería del Pozo

Just an 11-minute walk from Gran View Apartments, you’ll find a true gem in the heart of Madrid: Antigua Pastelería del Pozo. Founded in 1830, it has preserved its artisanal essence for nearly two centuries, becoming an undisputed reference among Madrid’s traditional pastry shops.

Behind its display cases filled with pastries, savoury pies and nougat, it’s impossible not to be tempted—but its star specialties are the cinnamon torrija and its flaky puff pastries. It’s open every day except Mondays.

Luna & Wanda

In the Chamberí neighbourhood, a 25-minute metro ride from Gran View Apartments, you’ll find one of the shops of Luna & Wanda, a pastry shop that has won over the city and earned the third prize for the best cheesecake in Madrid.

Their menu ranges from the classic baked cheesecake to more creative options such as pistachio and white chocolate or dulce de leche cheesecake. All cakes are available in large, medium or small sizes. They also offer mini tartlets—perfect for trying several flavours. They’re open daily and offer takeaway and delivery services.

Pastelería América

With its own bakery and open every day, Pastelería América, located 18 minutes away by metro from our apartments, is one of those places that stands out for the variety and quality of everything they make. Their display cases include artisanal cakes, traditional Madrid sweets such as rosquillas, homemade alfajores and much more. In 2021, they won the award for the best rosquillas tontas in Madrid. Definitely a must-visit!
