Cycling in Madrid

October 19, 2022

Where can you get a bicycle in Madrid?

If you're coming to the city as a tourist and have left your bike at home, don't worry. Madrid has a wide range of bicycle rental options. BiciMAD, for example, provides electric bicycles for rent at reasonable prices, and there is a stand every 300 metres. You can find all the information you need on their website. On the other hand, there are many private establishments in the city where you can rent bikes by the day or by the hour. The closest to our apartments are Trixi Bike Rental & Bike Tours and Mi Bike Río. Would you like to rent a multi-passenger bike? Many companies offer this fun option, and some of them even have bikes known as "bicibirra", on which you can drink beer while cycling with friends.

Cycling routes in Madrid

You can choose the route that best suits your preferences, from discovering the most central and urban areas of the city to pleasant nature routes. If you prefer the peace and quiet of Casa de Campo, don't miss this route, which is ideal for the whole family. And, if you fancy some incredible panoramic views of Madrid by bike, this is the perfect option. Want a challenge? See the Green Belt Route. Finally, if you want to see the main monuments and other important parts of Madrid, we recommend the route through the city centre.

Rules for cycling in Madrid

Naturally, we must not forget that there are rules in place to ensure the safety of everyone in the city. Helmets must be worn on intercity roads. Furthermore, you cannot ride on the pavement or pedestrian streets or in pedestrian areas, only in cycle lanes. Only children under 12 years of age accompanied by an adult can ride on the pavement, but no faster than 5 km/h. The use of headphones while cycling is also prohibited. This website provides more information on cycling regulations in Madrid and you can find the timetables for travelling with your bicycle in the Metro in Madrid here.

Finally, remember that after a day of cycling around Madrid, your fully equipped apartment will be waiting for you in the city centre. Book your Gran View Apartment now!
