Museums you can’t miss in Madrid

November 18, 2022

Museo Nacional del Prado (Prado National Museum)

Let’s start with the one that is not only the most famous museum in Madrid but one of the most famous in the world. Here you will find such outstanding works as “Las Meninas” by Diego Velázquez, “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Bosch and “The Naked Maja” by Francisco de Goya, among many others. This is the city’s most popular museum, and, of course, you can purchase your ticket online on the museum’s website. Moreover, it is only a 20-minute walk from our apartments, which are located in Gran Vía.

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Queen Sofía National Museum and Art Centre)

The Queen Sofia Museum contains 20th-century and contemporary art and is located in the Atocha district, a 23-minute walk from Gran View Apartments. It is also one of the most famous museums, home to the famous “Guernica” by Pablo Picasso, and houses many other paintings by the same artist, as well as by Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró. You can buy tickets and find more information about exhibitions, prices and opening times here.

Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza (Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum)

Another museum you shouldn’t miss on your visit to Madrid is the Thyssen, where you will discover major works from the history of art, by painters from the 14th and 15th centuries (Duccio, Jan van Eyck) to pop art and figurative paintings of the 1980s (Lucian Freud, Richard Estes). It is very close to our apartments; it will only take 15 minutes to get there on foot. If you need more information, don’t forget to visit their website.

Museo Arqueológico Nacional (National Archaeological Museum)

Because not everything is art and painting, Madrid is also home to some of the most important archaeological artefacts dating from prehistoric times to the Modern Age at the National Archaeological Museum, a 20-minute walk from Gran View Apartments. In addition to its vast collection of Iberian works, you can also find items from Ancient Greece and Egypt. It has 40 halls and more than 13,000 historical objects. Don’t miss it!

Museo Sorolla (Sorolla Museum)

The renowned Sorolla Museum is 20 minutes by bus from our apartments. Its collection of paintings consists of 1,294 pieces by the artist after whom the museum is named. There are also 164 works by other painters, including Aureliano de Beruete, Anders Zorn and Martín Rico Ortega.

Don’t forget that Madrid’s museums offer free admission on Wednesdays and on 18 May (International Museum Day), 12 October (National Holiday) and 6 December (Constitution Day). Many also offer reduced fares for students, senior citizens and large families.

Finally, if you are looking for accommodation in Madrid where you can rest after an intense day of exploring the city’s culture, Gran View Apartments offers you luxury flats with all the comforts right in the centre of Madrid. Book now!
