Sunrises and Sunsets in Madrid

October 19, 2022

What time does the sun rise in Madrid?

For many people, the moment when the sun rises is one of the most beautiful moments of the day. Although most people watch it on their way to work or school, the sunrise paints the sky in wonderful colours that are well worth seeing. In Madrid, this usually happens at around 07.30, although it varies depending on the time of year. It is later (around 08.30) in winter and at 06.40 in early summer.

What time does the sun set in Madrid?

The sunset, on the other hand, creates spectacular views, and many people gather to watch it in Madrid. The city is known for its long days and long daylight hours, with sunset around 21:40 in summer and around 18:00 in winter. The rest of the year, sunset occurs around 19:00 or 20:00.

The best places to enjoy sunrises

If you want to experience the best sunrise in Madrid, make your way to Cerro del Tío Pío Park (also known as El Parque de las Siete Tetas) early in the morning. It is a 15-minute drive from Gran View Apartments and is a favourite place for locals to watch Madrid wake up. Another option is to wander through the streets of central Madrid, walk through Retiro Park or visit Vistillas Garden and watch the sky turn into countless colours as the sun begins to light up Madrid. It is certainly worth getting up early to see the sunrise from these locations.

The best places to enjoy sunsets

As we have already mentioned, many locals and tourists gather at strategic points to watch the sun set while they spend time with friends, have a drink, a meal or simply enjoy the sunset on their own. There are countless places in Madrid from where you can admire the best sunsets, such as the lake in Retiro Park, the Temple of Debod, Madrid Río, the Royal Palace, the Puerta de Alcalá or Parque del Oeste. Moreover, if you want to enjoy spectacular views of the sunset while sipping a drink or bathing in a pool, you can do so from our rooftop terrace if you stay at our apartments.

Indeed, if you are looking for accommodation in Madrid where you can enjoy the best sunrises from your bed or enjoy amazing sunsets with panoramic views of the city, don't forget to book your flat at Gran View Apartments.
