Tapas in Madrid: The Ultimate Tour

May 27, 2024

One of Madrid’s most iconic gastronomic traditions is, without a doubt, going out for tapas. The capital is full of bars and taverns where you can enjoy a wide variety of flavours reflecting the diversity and culinary heritage of Spain. In this post, we have put together a route near our apartments, featuring the best spots to try the finest tapas in Madrid. Let’s go!

Restaurante Casa Paco

If you want to savour culinary history, this tapas restaurant in Madrid is the ideal spot. Founded in 1870, it takes you on a journey through Madrid’s tradition: from the popular cocido madrileño served every Tuesday to signature dishes such as callos a la madrileña (Madrid-style tripe), “Casa Paco” potatoes, and their beef cuts. It is just 13 minutes on foot from Gran View Apartments. Do not miss it!

La Gildería

A more modern addition to the tapas scene, this restaurant in La Latina opened its doors in 2021 with a focus on the art of the gilda (a classic Basque pintxo). La Gildería reinvents the traditional bar with a contemporary concept and a relaxed atmosphere. It seats 33 diners and does not accept reservations, making it the perfect place to enjoy a drink and sample its creative combinations. They currently have two locations; the larger one is on Calle Trafalgar, 12 minutes by bus from our apartments.

Taberna Los Gatos

This charming bar is highly praised for its quirky decor and, of course, for its draught beer and tapas. You can enjoy a wide variety of toasted bread, stuffed piquillo peppers, steamed mussels, pinchos, and much more. The venue is small, but we can assure you it is well worth a visit. It is located 18 minutes by metro (Line 1) from Gran View Apartments.

Taberneros

Looking for a tapas spot in central Madrid? This is the place! This tavern combines traditional Madrid cuisine with international touches, led by Japanese chef Kenji Morita. Its innovative approach earned it recognition as the best tapas bar in 2007, thanks to iconic dishes such as its famous pringá croquettes. Located just 10 minutes on foot from Gran View Apartments, it is an unmissable stop.

Jurucha

Here you can sample a great variety of pinchos and enjoy their beers and wines. The price per person is very reasonable, and it is a must-stop in the Salamanca neighbourhood, so we recommend arriving early to grab a spot — it tends to get quite busy. You can get there by metro from our apartments in just 20 minutes.

To experience Madrid to the fullest, our apartments right on the Gran Vía are the ideal base: fully equipped and perfectly located to reach all points of interest. Book your apartment now!
